Cinnamon Carrot Fries for Baby

Soft Cinnamon Carrot Fries for baby led weaning. These tasty fries are perfect for babies starting at 6-7 months and older. Bonus: Toddlers and parents will like them too!

Cinnamon Carrot Fries for Baby Led Weaning

Not only is your baby going to love these carrot fries but Mom and Dad (and sister and brother!) are going to like snacking on them too. This is the exciting age where baby starts to try new spices, and we can start to incorporate them into foods we as adults love too! A good example are these Cinnamon Carrot Fries!

These carrot fries are perfect if you’re exploring baby led weaning around 6-7 months. At around this age both my girls loved these fries, Sweet Potato Fries and Sweet Potato Cookies. This is also a great recipe that sticks around. My oldest loved these at 7 months old and she still enjoys these at 3 and a half years old. If you can win over an opinionated toddler, then you can win over anyone!

How to Make Fries for Baby

Peel the carrots and chop the ends off.

Cut them into 1/2 inch thick pieces, about the size of your finger.

Put them on a baking sheet (I think they cook best directly on the baking sheet but you can also use parchment paper for easy cleanup if you prefer). Add olive oil on top of them.

Now sprinkle cinnamon.

Mix them around so they’re all coated in oil, cinnamon and are in a single layer.

Bake, making sure to stir them halfway so they don’t burn on one side. After 20 minutes, stick a fork in them. If it goes in very easily, they’re done. If they’re still a little hard add a couple of minutes until they’re soft.

Allow to cool and serve a couple for baby. And a couple for you. 🙂

How to Store Veggie Fries

You can store these in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. I like to put them in individual glass jars for easy serving for lunch, dinner and daycare meals.

You can also place in freezer bags and freeze for up to 3 months. I like to make a double (or triple) batch of these fries to always have on hand for easy meals because some time dinner time is hectic in my house. 🙂

Want to turn into carrot mash or puree?

Place the carrots in a bowl and mix with a fork until you get the chunky consistency you want for baby. If you want puree, add the carrots into the food processor with 2 tablespoons of water (or formula or breast milk) and pulse until smooth.

Other Spice Ideas

Besides cinnamon you can also try adding nutmeg, garlic or paprika to the fries. I’m sure your baby will let you know what they like and what they don’t like. 🙂

Cinnamon Carrot Fries for Baby (and Parents!)

Soft Cinnamon Carrot Fries for baby led weaning. These tasty fries are perfect for babies starting at 6-7 months and older. Bonus: Toddlers and parents will like them too!

Total Time 30 minutes minutes
serves 6

Ingredients

  • 6 carrots about 8 oz
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Peel the carrots and then cut the ends off. Chop them into ½ inch thick pieces, about the size of your finger. If any pieces are super long, cut them in half.
  • Arrange them on a baking sheet directly or use parchment paper for easy cleanup. Pour olive oil on top of the carrots and stir so they’re all coated. Add a pinch of cinnamon on top and stir once again so they are single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, stirring them halfway to prevent them sticking to the baking sheet. After 20 minutes, test softness by putting a fork into one. If the fork slides in easily, they’re done. If it doesn’t, add a couple more minutes.
  • Allow to cool before serving your baby a couple of carrot fries.
  • Carrot fries stay good in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or can be frozen for longer term storage.
  • Want to serve as carrot mash? Place the carrots in a bowl and mash with a fork until you get the consistency you want. If you want carrot puree, put carrots in a food processor with a 2 tablespoons of water and pulse until smooth. Serve with a spoon to baby.
